As my (and most recent) home cinema receivers don’t have an analog audio output, I cannot directly connect an HEMC.
What I use, is a Zoom H4n audio recorder set to REC & pause, with the built-in microphones (auto volume) picking up the sound in the room (just like the HaptiSync does) and connect the line out to the audio input of the HEMC. It works like a charm, but I’d prefer a neater solution. Problem so far with HDMI audio extractors I’ve come across, is that when they’re 1080 resolution max, the receiver switches bsck to 1080. Other models don’t convert any signal higher than Dolby 5.1 / DTs, so what will happen when my source is in Atmos / DTS:X?
Do you know a brand & model that is suitable and doesn’t break the bank? (and still readily available on Amazon for instance)
Hope you can help.
HDMI audio extractor
Hi Patrick, we will see if there is an option that can works for you
Hi Patrick, we know that some clients are using this extractor and apparently works fine, but until now was not tested for D-BOX, if you are interested you can try it and see if it works for you
Thank you for your interest in D-BOX products
I am consistently on the lookout for a solution here too. I am currently using my Oppo, which sends a downmixed signal (digital) to an Emotive DAC. Since the Oppo has an HDMI input, it also works with my Nvidia Shield TV Pro for streaming. For me, the ultimate solution would be for Trinnov (the AV processor I have) to provide a software update that would cover this, so it would allow me to connect more sources without needing to add an HDMI switcher or audio extractor in the signal chain. Storm Audio already does this. Alternatively, there are older AVRs on the market (used) that are relatively cheap. You can also try an Atlona AT-HDR-M2C 4K HDR Downmixing Audio Extractor. Keep in mind, that these are discontinued and used to be pricy. Even when used, they hover around the $100 US mark.
EDIT: I have never tried one of the Atlona’s but when talking to their support, they said it would not support Atmos or DTS X, though it may be possible it does, I didn’t want to misguide anyone.
Yes I use the atlona but unfortunately I have not upgraded to 4K yet so I can’t give any comparison. I mainly use my D-BOX for 3d movie viewing which is 1080p. My avr does not have atmos either i think it just converts to Dolby digital true hd when I watch atmos content. The atlona is connected to zone 2 and crowsons to zone 3.
